In 2011, we decided to try to take our numbers and do something extra for the community by collecting food and money donations for the Mid-South Food Bank. We had a great response, and raised more than 500 pounds of food and $220 in cash for the organization, which is one of the area’s most crucial charitable organizations.
In 2012, we did the same but bigger, with more than 750 pounds of food and $100 cash donated by you and all of the people who make Memphis great.
The donations will continue in 2013. We hope to get 1,000 pounds of food. We’ll have donation boxes at the beginning of the walk in our staging area in Army/Navy Park near G.E. Patterson and S. 2nd, and at corners along the walk. You can also give cash or check donations to any MZM organizers. Like 2011 and 2012, we will be wearing bright yellow Horde Herder shirts but if you are a bit squicked out by giving money to someone you don’t know, ask to see our walk permit. We all will be carrying one.
According to the Food Bank’s brochure (PDF link), the organization’s most-needed items include:
• Canned meats, including tuna, stews, chicken and dumplings, chili, Spam, soups
• Peanut butter
• Canned fruits
• Canned veggies
• Canned fruit juice
• Any non-perishable item, but no glass containers

All donations are on a volunteer basis and are not a stipulation for participating in the zombie walk, of course, but anything you can contribute will help our community out tremendously.
We love Memphis and we want to see it thrive. The better Memphis is, the better we are.
